Ramnganing vows to unite Tangkhul villages

Former Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) president, SA Ramnganing, has declared his candidacy for the forthcoming presidential election of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex customary body of the Tangkhul community, while stating that his goal is to unify Tangkhul villages, which he believes are losing their sense of brotherhood and unity due to division among them.
Ramnganing, who is also the chief of Marangphung village in Northern Ukhrul, expressed concern over the declining unity among Tangkhul villages, while speaking to the media during an interview on the sidelines of his official blessing ceremony held his residence at Seipet Zingsho, Phun-greitang in Ukhrul town on Sunday.
He emphasised the crucial role of TNL in restoring the customary spirit of unity and solidarity that was once prevalent among the people.
"In the past, TNL was highly respected by elders as the cornerstone of Tangkhul society due to its sanctity and integrity.
However, today, despite advancements in education and knowledge, the society is experiencing a decline in moral and social values, resulting in division," he lamented.
He mentioned that driven by these concerns, he has resolved to run for the TNL presidential election to tackle the challenges facing the community and salvage its future.
"I'm committed to find effective ways to address the challenges facing our society and safeguard our future," he added.
He called on all Tangkhul brethren to support his vision and mission of revitalizing society by adhering strictly to the TNL constitution, restoring its olden glory as exemplified by the elders.
Acknowledging the importance of the apex body, he said that that the TNL has historically played a significant role in preserving the customary spirit of unity and solidarity among the Tangkhul people.
He then expressed his determination to restore the institution s integrity and adherence to its constitution, echoing the values exemplified by Tangkhul elders of the past.
Ramnganing also identified the prevalence of selfish interests as a cause of distrust and disunity among neighbouring villages.
He pledged to find solutions to existing conflicts and replace them with a spirit of love and unity, paving the way for a peaceful and meaningful coexistence in the modern civilised society.
The TNL Election Commis sion recently notified that nominations will be open from May 6-7, with the election scheduled for May 22.Five candidates, including Ramnganing, are vying for the presidential post.
The other candidates included Somimayar Awungshi, Yangmi Khapai, Sword Vashum and Vareshang Zingkhai.
