MDA submits memorandum to Governor

Imphal, May 25 2023: A team of Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan to state their stand against the demand to establish a separate administration raised by 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs, today.

The MDA team led by its chairman Bijoy Koijam submitted a memorandum to the Governor.

Some of the key points mentioned in the memorandum are to keep the territorial integrity of Manipur intact, constitution of an independent judicial enquiry commission led by a retired Judge of the Supreme Court to study the ethnic clash in Manipur, keeping the cadres of Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact at their respective designated camps, opening of National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road), implementation of a National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur with December 31, 1961 as the base year, making Manipur State Population Commission functional and amendment of Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms Act, 1960 to make it uniform.

After meeting the Governor, Bijoy Koijam said that the law and order crisis in Manipur can only be controlled after keeping the cadres of the Kuki SoO groups at their designated camps and taking hold of their weapons.

Asking why the cadres of Kuki militant groups were allowed to take part in the Tribal Solidarity March of May 3 in some hill districts, he claimed that there may be a hidden agenda for organising the massive rally.

He further said that the people of Manipur don't accept the demand of separate administration raised by the 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs.

Saying that MDA will always stand against any attempt to balkanise the State, Bijoy continued that those who want to live in Mizoram may do so but the land of Manipur should be kept as it is.

He said that MDA condemns the statement of Mizoram Chief Minister which sounded more like a provocation to a particular community.

It would be wrong to depict Chief Minister N Biren Singh as an anti-Kuki leader for launching War on Drugs campaign and evicting illegal structures from Protected and Reserved forest areas, Bijoy said and added whatever the Government has been doing to protect Reserved and Protected forest and prevent influx of illegal immigrants is for the welfare of every citizen of Manipur.

None of the Central leaders coming to Manipur to assess the ground realities of the ethnic clash is unfortunate, he said and added that the Opposition and the ruling parties must work together to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

Convenor of MDA M Tombi said that the Governor has assured to apprise the Chief Minister and the Security Advisor about the points mentioned in the memorandum.
