Hangeul Day celebrated at Manipur University

Department of Foreign Language (Korean), Manipur University, organised the first seminar of Hangeul Day celebration at the University Court Hall today.
The seminar was sponsored by the Academy of Korean Studies, SAMSUNG, Korean Cultural Centre and Asian Airlines.
The inauguration of Hangeul Day Celebration, 2019, was graced by Jarnail Singh (Administrator MU), Yoo Chang-ho (Minister-Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Korea), Kwak Mira (Education Director, Korean Cultural Centre, Delhi), Dr Hyunkyung Lee (Visiting Professor, Korea Foundation) and Prof Yashwanta Singh (Coordinator of Department of Foreign Language, MU).
Jarnail Singh and Prof Yashwanta Singh delivered the welcome speech and Dr Hyunkyung Lee gave the introductory speech while Yoo Chang-ho gave the congratulatory speech for scholarship distribution by Asiana Airline (Two round trip ticket) and donation by Samsung (two 43 inch LCD, HP Multipurpose printer, four Samsung smart phones and stationery item for students) and Dr Ahanthem Romita Devi , Assistant Professor, Dept of Foreign Language (Korean), MU gave the vote of thanks of the inauguration ceremony.
The first session was chaired by Dr Hyunkyung Lee at the Mass Communication seminar hall MU and Yoo Chang-ho presented a speech on the "Relationship between Korea and India" followed by Prof Yashwanta singh on "Effective Language Teaching".
Dr SJ Neethiranjan (Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Centre, Imphal) presented a speech on the "Basic Need Approach to Rural & Tribal Development with special reference to Arunachal Pradesh" while Seongyoon Jeong and Jongkwan Yoon (Researcher, Samsung Electronics) delivered speech on "History and core values of Samsung" and "Samsung in India" respectively.
In the first session, a Korean food festival was organised at Centenary Lawn, MU with 6 food items and poster for explaining of each Korean foods which saw heavy rush of student and participants.
During the second session, Kwak Mira (Educational Director, Korean Cultural Centre in New Delhi) presented a speech on "Korean Language Teaching in India", Dr L Iboyaima Singh (Assistant Prof, Department of Humanities, Manipur Technical University) on "Issues and Challenges in introducing Korean at Manipur Technical University", Sonia Wahengbam (Assistant Prof) and Dr Natasha Elangbam (Assistant Prof) jointly presented a speech on "Understanding the diffusion of Hallyu (Korean Wave) in Manipur".
A Korean cultural programme was also organised including Taekwondo, K-pop group (dance & Singing), Manipur dance team, Korean fan dance and Korean songs.
Tomorrow's programme will consist of Korean quiz competition, Korean singing and dance competition and Korean movie screening.
More than 56 students registered for Hangeul Day Quiz competition.
The first prize of Hangeul Day quiz competition will be a Samsung smart phone with certificate and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th position holder will receive the cash prize of Rs 4000, Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 with certificates.
Meanwhile, Manipur University Student Union (MUSU) organised a reception ceremony at the Conference Hall of Anthropology Department, MU today which was attended by Jarnail Singh (Administrator, MU), Prof Ch Jashwanta singh (Deans of Students Welfare, MU) and Prof MC Arun (HOD Anthropology Dept, MU).
The reception ceremony was for the participation of Manipur University Cultural Team at the 34th East Zone Inter University Youth Festival at Bihar and 34th Inter University National Youth Festival at Chandigarh University.
