Children Day widely celebrated in Manipur

Tengnoupal/Kakching/Tamenglong/Kangpokpi/Ukhrul/Thoubal, November 14 2014 : Joining the nationwide celebration of Children's Day, St.

Peter's School, Tengnoupal in Chandel District also celebrated the Children Day at its School Premises today with S.Tongpao Mate, Executive Member (CAF & PD, Art and Culture) ADC Chandel as the Chief Guest.

The Celebration was also graced by L Kiran Kumar Singh, Sub Divisional Officer (SDO), Tengnoupal and John Thangkholen Mate, Chief of Tengnoupal as the Guest of Honour and Functional President respectively.

Apart from encouraging speeches delivered by the dignitaries, Spectacular Choreography, Cultural Dances, Action Songs and Fancy Dress were also exhibited by the young students of the school during the celebration.

While addressing as the Chief Guest, S.Tongpao Mate, Executive member, ADC Chandel said that Children Day is not just a day to celebrate with fun and frolic, but to renew our commitment towards the welfare of the Children as well as to teach them to live by Nehru's ideals.

And it is an occasion to imbibe the qualities of childhood, he added.

The Executive Member further stated that the development of a nation lies in the hands of today's children, as they are the responsible citizens of tomorrow.

So, we must imbibe the values of good character and discipline, sense of order, cleanliness besides providing them a good education, he added.

He further maintained that there are several cases of child abuse and violation of Child Rights in every part of our country.

A lot of children were also deprived of their rights to get education, a good health care, healthy food, protection and safe shelter.

If we continue to deprive the rights of these children, the future of our nation is bleak and how can our nation be developed, questioned the Executive member.

While appealing to respect the Rights of the Children, S.Tongpao Mate, Executive Member ADC Chandel also extended our love and care to those children who are sick, abused and homeless on the occasion of the Children Day.

The District Health Mission Society Tamenglong on Friday organised Healthy Baby Competition at the District Hospital Tamenglong in connection with the children day with Dr.Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer of Tamenglong as Chief Guest.

Cash prizes of Rs.1000, Rs.700 and Rs.500 were given to first, second and third position holders respectively along with certificates.

The competition was held in three categories - 6-11 months, 12- 23 months and 24- 36 months.

During the programme, Dr.Chambo Gonmei also spoke about the implementation of JSY and JSSK, while Dr.Namjupou Panmei, DIO delivered lecture on the importance of breastfeeding and immunization.

Children's day celebration cum district level painting competition on "stop child abuse" was also held at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong.

The program was organised by District Child Protection Unit Tamenglong, Department of Social Welfare, Govt.of Manipur along with Zaojian Children Home, Tamenglong run by Indigenous Women and Children Foundation.

The program was graced by Namlalung Gangmei, SDC Tamenglong as chief guest and Dinsonguiliu Kamei, President of Indigenous Women and Children Foundation and Babuna Dangmei, District Protection Officer, Tamenglong as guest of honour and president of the function respectively.

In the district level painting competition of stop child abuse, Paul Damei (class 9) of Trinity Public School, Gaibidim Gangmei (class 10) of United Builders School, Chunthailung (class 10) of United Builders' School and Majosin Pamei (10) of Don Bosco bagged first, second, third and fourth respectively and cash prizes of Rs.2000, Rs.1500, Rs.1000 and Rs 500 along with certificates were give to the winners.

In connection with the celebration of Children Day today, District Child Protection Unit Senapati under Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur sponsored and organized for the first time Children Day-cum- Painting Competition at district level at Kanglatongbi Children Home.

The cash prize painting competition was organized only for the children home of Senapati District in the age group of 6-11 years and 12-16 years under the theme "Children are the pillars of the Nation" .

Chinpai Rangnamei, District Child Protection Officer, Senapati and other officials from the unit attended the occasion, while Ratan Kumar, Asst.

Inspector of School, SHADC Kangpokpi and Louriyam Bebica, PhD.

Scholar attended as resource persons respectively.

More than 70 students from the two children home - Kanglatongbi Children Home and Hope Home, MANEDA, Senapati- participated in the competition.

In her keynote address Chinpai Rangnamei, DCPO Senapati lamented that there numerous orphan children who needs attention from various sector before adding that it is our duty and responsibility to bestow those call for.

The lady DCPO emphasized the weight to encourage those young minds to strive for their best irrespective of their conditions and background as they are the future pillars of the Nation and the citizens of tomorrow.

Winners of the competition were distributed prize at the end.

Children day programme of Centennial Christian Academy (CCA) was held on Friday at Hungpung village with an array of cultural performances presented by the school children.

In an address to the school children, the commandant of 41 Assam Rifles Col.Gaurav Bose who graced the function as chief guest encouraged them to work and study hard to achieve success in life.

He was accompanied by his lady wife Smita Bose and children.

The students performed many cultural items, songs and choreography.

On the occasion, Smita Bose gave away meritorious awards 2013 to the students and distributed prizes to winners of sports meet.

CCA vice principal K.Raingam delivered the children's day message, while vote of thanks was pronounced by Rev.Achung Zingkhai, chairman of the CCA managing board.

In commemoration of the birth anniversary of first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharal Nehru and the National Children Day, Bal (Child) Swachhta Mission was launched in schools of Thoubal District today.

The 5-day Mission to be conducted under the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched at various schools in Heirok and Wangjing Tentha assembly constituencies by Deputy Inspector of School, Zone-III, Thoubal Tekcham Bikomdash Meitei and AI of Zone-III, Thoubal, M Manglem Singh.

The schools where the mission started are: Heirok Pt-III Upper Primary School, Kangyambem Upper Primary School, Ukhongshang Govt.Upper Primary School, Lourambam Ukhongshang Upper Primary School, Nongpok Sekmai Khumbi High School, and Sikhong Hijam Khunou Primary School in Heirok assembly constituency, while those in Wangjing Tentha are: Wangjing High School, Lalit Madhob Sharama High School Khongjom, Phundrei High School and Ureca High School Khongjom.

During the mission, programmes of Clean Food, Clean Self, Clean drinking water and clean Toilets are being taken up on November 15,17,18 and 19 .

Meanwhile, Children day was celebrated today at Lions Service Center, Thoubal being organised by the Leo Club of Thoubal District 322D with the Students of Free Moral Education.

As a part of the observance, different Special Cultural and Entertainment Programmes performed by the students of Free Moral Education Center were displayed.

Children Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm at Assam Rifles Public School, Mantripukhri to mark the birth anniversary of first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.

Mrs Rashmi Chopra, President Assam Rifles Welfare Association, IGAR (South) graced the occasion as the chief guest and addressed the children.

The celebration involved a series of cultural programmes to include songs, traditional dance and riddle contest for the children and sweets were distributed to the children, informed a release of PRO, IGAR (South) today.
