Imphal, May 31 2009: Citing the prevalence of grave discrimination in the state society, the Muslim Advocates' Legal Services Organisation (MALSO) expressed their deep condemnation and condolence over the cruel killing of the Dean of Students' Welfare, Professor Md Islamuddin by the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) on May 31 inside the campus of the Manipur University.

MALSO also shared the grievances of the near and dear ones of Professor Md Islamuddin and prayed for his departed soul to rest in peace at its heavenly abode.

A release of MALSO issued by its General Secretary, Advocate Md Rabi Khan stated that it is not appropriate to give capital punishment to a Professor who is placed at high place of regard by students for whatever heinous fault he might have committed and would have been appreciated if the outfit would have imposed any alternative punishments rather than killing.

It is not an advice to any particular militant outfit but it has become customary for the militant outfits and the security forces to impose blame to a person after killing him.

Such social situation let people not to believe on the acts of the perpetrators.

As higher classes and research scholars of the University knows, Professor Islamuddin is a very humble and polite person who leads a very simple and soft life.

We are able to voice against the law and order mechanisms of the state authority but not able to say a word against any militant outfit in the state.

Hence, it would not be wrong to say that the Article 19(1)(a) which guarantees the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression in the Indian Constituency has been violated to the citizen of the state.

Exclaiming shock against the rewarding of death sentence to a Professor, the statement further stated that MALSO used to place KYKL at higher reputation in the interest of the public.

Now we have to see how the militant outfits mainly KYKL would impart justice towards all persons involved in the clique of the Manipur University.

We need to discuss the advantages of having Students Union like an indispensable part of college and university apart from paying attention towards studies.

There are many colleges and universities outside the state which do not have any students union but have the best academic atmosphere.

The statement also expressed wonder over the tour of Manipur DGP, during the issue of killing a qualified Professor for the cause of formation of Students Union at the state border area at Jiribam on May 29 last without any of his company.

The involvement of some IRB personnel into the matter has given desire to put up more question towards the government and also enquired what the public could further expect from the Home Department as they were found involved into the matter.

Apart from raising voices for the arrested students, it would be most appropriate to think for the gone as well as coming teachers too.

We condemned simply killing a person for a fault but as a lesson for future, it would be right to teach a lesson to all persons involved in the university clique in public.

MALSO appealed to all section of the society not to bring any communal feeling into the issue in the press statement.

Meanwhile, the Kwakta Youth Association Cum Youth Centre of Kwakta, the Nongshum Yaikairol Leisem Youth Club, the Sandhong Youth Welfare Association of Kwakta and the United Villages and Clubs' Organization in separate press releases expressed deep condemnations and condolence on the brutal killing of Professor Md Islamuddin on May 25 last inside the campus of the Manipur University.
