Abonmai JAC imposes state-wide bandh
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, September 30 2021: The JAC formed against the murder of Zeliangrong Baudi advisor Athuan Abonmai has decided to impose the 24 hours state-wide total shutdown (bandh) which was deferred considering the appeals made by different organisations.

The total shutdown will now come into effect from the midnight of October 3, JAC informed through a statement issued by its media cell.

Announcing the decision, the JAC statement said it has been observing the manner of deal ing of the state government with confidence regarding the incident of abduction and subsequent barbaric and brutal killing of Athuan Abonmai on September 22.However, the government headed by chief minister N Biren has been seemingly shielding the culprits instead of giving befitting punishment to the culprits.

The incident occurred when the victim (Athuan Abonmai) with the full knowledge of district administration and CM went to Tamenglong to attend the 'Go to Hills' programme attended by the CM, cabinet ministers and other top-ranking government officials.

It said that representatives of the JAC met CM N Biren twice and placed before him the charter of demands and conveyed the position of the JAC.

The CM also assured to the JAC that government will take up appropriate action but the government has failed to take up any satisfactory and appropriate action even after the lapse of one week, alleged the JAC.

According to the JAC, the nature of the crime committed by the perpetrators and the particular suspected organisation behind the crime is well known by the state government and hence it is the responsibility of the government to tackle and deal in the most effective ways without waiting for JAC's charter of demands.

The nature of crime committed amidst the government programme is a clear indication of the incompetent, ineffectiveness and irresponsibility of the state government and hence the chief minister, who is also in-charge of the home department, should resign immediately on moral ground.

The JAC also appealed to all the right-thinking people irrespective of their caste and creed to raise their voices in unison in condemning the gruesome and merciless murder of Athuan Abonmai so that the culprits are booked and justice delivered to the departed soul.

It also said that the united stand of the people and protest movement launched against such gruesome murder will never be able to suppress by any force.

The JAC also hoped that people of the state will live in peace and harmony after this unfortunate incident as the departed soul of Athuan Abonmai has given a chance for standing up against one as injustice in the society.
