AMTCOC meet discusses surge in e-rickshaw

All Moirang Transport Coordinating Committee (AMTCOC), a joint body of 15 passenger service providers of Moirang, organised a meeting of its members at Gojendra Public Ground, Thinungei on Sunday to discuss rapid rise in the number of e-rickshaws operating in areas covered by Moirang Municipal Council (MMC) and ways to address disruption caused to other passenger service providers.
The meeting jointly presided over by AMTCOC advisor Moirangthem Mangi, president Moirangthem Mukta, secretary Laishram Tomba, convener Pukhrambam Pravin, and joint secretary Chesam Md Habibur Rahman, deliberated on issues related to welfare of the Committee, member drivers and owners numbering around 700.Speaking at the meeting, convener P Pravin informed that despite prohibition on forming and registration of association by e-rickshaw operators since 2015, there are reports about associations registered stealthily at the behest of individuals who .are either part of the government or close to the administration.
He also stated that apart from Tata Magic, diesel auto and Winger passenger service available in Moirang, around 800 e-rickshaws are operating in areas under MMC consequently causing frequent traffic jams and affecting Source of income of Committee members.
Noting that passenger service providers were hit hard due to outbreak of Covid -19 pandemic years back with the problem further, compounded by the prevailing ethnic conflict in the state, Pravin appealed to village volunteers not to ask for untenable donation, while assuring that the member associations will extend whatever help they Can to the volunteers.
