Training prog on Juvenile Justice Act held

Kangpokpi, October 23 2012: Senapati District Legal Services Authority, Manipur under Manipur Legal Services Authority organized a one-day training programme for police officers on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 at Kangpokpi Police Station complex today.

The training programme was attended by various legal experts, advocates and law practitioner, Para Legal Volunteers, Imphal besides juvenile officer of Kangpokpi, Saikul, Sapormeina, New-Keithelmanbi Police Station.

Members Child Welfare Committee Senapati, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Kangpokpi Youth Union and some civil organisation of Senapati District also participated in the programme.

Guneshore Sharma, Member Secretary, Manipur Legal Services Authority, R.K.Memcha, CJM, Senapati and Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice Board Senapati and Chongtham Momon Singh, Advocate attended the training programme as Resources Persons.

The training programme was also attended by Addl.SP, Kangpokpi Police Station Md.Zakir and Capt.

Marathe OC 43 Assam Rifles Kangpokpi Post.

Speaking at the training programme Mr..AGuneshore Sharma said that the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 is the primary legal framework for juvenile justice in India.

The Act provides for a special approach towards the prevention and treatment of juvenile delinquency and provides a framework for the protection, treatment and rehabilitation of children in the purview of the juvenile justice system.

Sharma also pointed out that, the aim of J.J.A.2000 is to consolidate and amend the law relating to juveniles in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection, by providing for proper care.

Protection and treatment by catering to their development needs, and by adopting a child-friendly approach in the adjudication and disposition of matters in the best interest of children and for their ultimate rehabilitation through various institutions established under this enactment.

R.K.Memcha emphasis the importance of Juvenile Justice Act in short J.J.A.2000 and the power of Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board and also the responsibility of police in dealing with juvenile case.

She further urged the concern police officer to have knowledge and understand the Juvenile Justice Act very well.
