Imphal, September 16 2023:
While expressing concern over fabricated history being created by some sections of people, Manipur University vice chancellor professor N Lokendra said that it is the right time and the duty of young historians to correct such false history so as to prevent confusion among the general public.
Speaking at the valedictory function of a project for documenting the hardships faced by the displaced people and rehabilitation programmes organised by the varsity's Department of Mass Communication at Earth Science Department Senate hall, on Saturday, Prof Lokendra pointed out that some sections of people have altered the history of Manipur taking undue advantage of the on-going conflict.
While stating that history cannot be simply based on books written recently, Lokendra said that an authentic history book should be based on factual data and the information received should be compared to references and consult with experts before publishing.
Expressing concern over publication of history books based on fabricated data, he said that such acts will only disintegrate the integrity of the state.
The valedictory function was attended by JNIMS Psychiatry Department head Dr Koijam Shantibala, Manipur Human Rights Commission deputy secretary E Anand, Department of Mass Communication adjunct faculty Aribam Syam Sharma and School of Social Science dean professor Th Purnima, among others.
