Imphal, October 20 2015:
All Clubs Organisation and Association Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup) on Tuesday appealed Kuki People's Liberation Front/Army (KPLF/A) to suspend the proposed economic blockade from October 20 midnight till October 31 along the State's National Highways.
During an interaction with media persons at ACOAM Lup head office, Lamphelpat, the President of the Lup Kshetrimayum Somorendro said that KPLF/A's decision to call the economic blockade against the passing of the three Bills in the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last is not reasonable.
During the days many important festivals will be celebrated including the Mera Hou-Chongba festival which will be organised by the Lup on October 27 at Major Mangang Research Centre Hall, Khangabok, said Somorendro and added both hills and valley will participate on the occasion.
Kuki's largest festive Kut will be celebrated on November 1 while Ningol Chakouba is to be celebrated on November 13 and if the economic blockade happens, it will have a large impact on these festivals.
Prices of essential commodities will soar and people will be only the sufferer, said Somorendro while adding that the economic blockade will not only affect valley peoples but also those from the hills.
The Lup President appealed KPLF/A to suspend the ten-day economic blockade stating that Mera Hou-Chongba has been continuously celebrated jointly by both hill and valley people since time immemorial.
