MSFDS mourns acclaimed audiographer Aribam Shantimo

Imphal, September 28 2026: The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) has mourned the passing of acclaimed audiographer Aribam Shantimo Shanna, who died on September 27, 2026 after prolonged illness.

His death is a profound loss to Manipuri cinema, MSFDS said.

With over three decades in sound craft, he worked on more than 40 films - 19 features and 22 non-features as per records - besides serving MSFDS for two decades.

He is best known for his work in Ishanou, directed by Aribam Syam Sharma, which gained international acclaim and was screened in Cannes Classics in 2023.He had a long association with Aribam Syam Sharma and collaborated with filmmakers including K Ibohal Sharma, Oken Amakcham, Makhonmani Mongsaba and Sunzu Bachaspatimayum.

Trained at Film Centre, NFDC.

Kolkata and India Film Lab, Kolkata, he was known for quiet professionalism and technical skill.

MSFDS termed him a gem of Manipuri cinema and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
