NPF unmasks 'hollow claim' of Dy CM on Nungba
Source: Hueiyen News Service / Newmai News Network

Imphal, August 17 2014: The Nungba unit of Naga Peoples' Front (NPF) has dismissed the claims made by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on the various developmental works implemented in Nungba assembly constituency of Tamenglong district during the inauguration of a Bailey Bridge over Leimatak river at Taosang Khunou on August 8 .

The NPF Nungba unit said that it cannot agree with bogus claims of development works done by Congress government in Nungba including construction of mini secretariat, 50 bedded and 200 bedded hospitals etc.

"Why the mini secretariat inaugurated in 2001 has not been functioning till date at Tamenglong and elsewhere? Why the Old Cachar Road is not motorable? Why the Khangsinlung Higher Secondary School at Gaidimjang Khompum is not opening? Why the BDO office Khoupum has been functioning at Babupara near his bungalow in Imphal for the last ten years? Why no PDS items are available to those genuine BPL card holders in Nungba assembly constituency? Why the public of Nungba assembly constituency is buying kerosene oil at an exorbitant price of Rs 80 to Rs 100 per litre? Where all those BPL/APL/AAY rice quotas gone? Where those sugar for Nungba assembly constituency gone? Why the farmers of Khoupum valley suffer due to failure of the supply of water to their wet cultivation? Why you have been failing to function the Khangsinlung Higher Secondary School at your native village Gaidimjang?," the NPF, Nungba unit posed a series of questions to the Deputy Chief Minister.

Forget about the hill districts, the Deputy Chief Minister has utterly failed to meet the development needs of the people and all benefits have been denied to the poor people of Nungba.

There is no adequate doctors, nurses, medical equipments for treating patients at all Community Health Centres (CHC), PHSC including Khoupum Nungba, Longmai etc.

and health facilities are very poor in Nungba assembly constituency, it added.

It then alleged that even though the Food Security Act was passed by the government, non Congress workers are denied benefits and only the Congress supporters were selected as beneficiaries in Nungba assembly constituency.

It also said that there are reports of corruption being institutionalised through the office of the deputy chief minister.

"Why many youth from Nungba assembly constituency and elsewhere who had applied in different IRB and Manipur police have been mortgaging their homestead lands, landed property at Khoupum, Longmai etc.

for payment through his coteries?," it asked.

According to the NPF, Nungba unit, many candidates who were not qualified and fulfilled the recruitment RR have been waiting with confident for the appoinment.

"It is learnt from reliable sources that most of the lands and paddyfields in Khoupum valley have been owned by the deputy chief minister and his families through mortgaged for appointment in police, IRB and teacher posts in ADC Tamenglong.

It is also learnt that he has been collecting lakhs and crores of rupees in transfer and postings in the department of home for which he had been sending out his coteries for negotiation and hefty collection.

Many poor candidates who applied for a post in police and IRB have been facing a huge financial hardship since their landed property have been mortgaged and exorbitant rate of interest over the capital they have borrowed from money lenders," the NPF, Nungba unit alleged.

The NPF, Nungba unit then likened the claims of the deputy chief minister to a proverb where a hen after laying an egg, cackles as if she has laid an asteroid.

So, the hollow claims of deputy chief minister Gaikhangam after the inauguration of bailey bridge is just like a cackling hen, it added.

"Where is a good health institute of the standard of RIMS and JNIMS in the hill districts? How many university and colleges are there in the hill districts? How many stadium of Khuman Lampak standard being built in any of the hill districts for promoting games and sports?," the NPF, Nungba unit further questioned.
