Imphal, January 07 2017:
Expressing deep concern over the political impasse in the State and condemning the December 18 incidents of last year at Khurai Lamlong, the Tangkhul Khararnao Long (TKL), Shillong (Tangkhul Elders Forum) has appealed to the State Government to rescind the premeditated action of bifurcating the hill districts.
In a statement, the TKL appealed to the State Government to immediately roll back the decision to create the seven new districts so that the interests of all the stakeholders are safeguarded and normalcy is restored.
Considering the seriousness of the issue, the TKL also urged the State Government to release the arrested UNC leaders and begin tripartite talk including the Central Government.
TKL further said that redrawing the map of the existing districts in total defiance of well established norms of consultation and dialogue with the stakeholders is nothing but divisive political appeasement and added that such a misadventure without adhering to the basic tenets of the democratic process is unprecedented.
