To harness peace and harmony among the diverse ethnic communities of the State and to evolve a way of garnering peace, communal harmony, friendship, and forging new ties the District Level Chavang Kut Committee Sadar Hills has appeal to all communities living in Sadar Hills to partake in the 'Thanksgiving' revelry.
As per the District Level Chavang Kut Committee Sadar Hills decision, 'Chavang Kut' will be celebrated at district level at Brigadier Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi on November 1 in two sessions, reports our correspondent.
Lunthang Haokip, Executive Member, ADC Sadar Hills, who headed the District Level Chavang Kut Committee Sadar Hills (DLCKC Sadar Hills) as chairman made the public appeal today in a joint meeting of the Kut committee and the nine sub-com-mittee held at Elite Hr Sec School, Kangpokpi this afternoon.
Stressing on the importance of the festival Lunthang Haokip said Chavang Kut has now become a symbol of unity among the people and an efficient way of preserving the valued cultural traditions.
Chavang Kut is a traditional festival celebrated by the Kuki ethnic groups since time immemorial.
The State level Chavang Kut was first held in Keithelmanbi village in Sadar Hills on November 1 in 1979 and is being held for nearly four decades now, he recalled.
Chavang Kut is one of the important festival of the State that not only highlights the vibrant colors of the region, but also play an important role in strengthening bonds between different tribes.
"Unity, integrity, co-existence and oneness being the main characteristics of the revelry, the organizing committee considers it important for all communities across Sadar Hills to partake in the event", said Lunthang Haokip.
