Kidnapped non-local labourers rescued

Imphal, March 10 2014 : The two kidnapped labourers of the Assam based construction company have been rescued by the security forces this morning from a village in Sadar Hills, Senapati district of Manipur.

According to the police, JCB operator identified as one Deboshis Mondal (30) s/o Shyamsundar Mondal of Suri village, West Bengal and Roller operator Ch Ajit Sinha, also 30 years, s/o Ch Arun of Rabvir Ghat Part-2, Cachar, Assam have been rescued by a combined team of Thoubal district police commandoes and the personnel of Yairipok police from Chaningpokpi Waiphei village of Sadar Hills, Senapati district around 6:45 am today.

However, the village falls under Yairipok police station of Thoubal district.

Chaningpokpi Waiphei village is just 20 km east of Yairipok police station.

The police source said the security force personnel were carrying out search operation in the area following a tip-off from certain quarters.

The police source did not divulge the exact identity of the militant outfit responsible for kidnapping the two workers but said they were hill based militants.

The two labourers were not harassed or tortured but due to lack of sleep and poor food facility, they became frail and exhausted.

They were immediately rushed to a government hospital for medical attention.

These labourers were working for Guwahati based construction agency ABCI Infrastructure Private Limited.

In the wee hours of March 2, six masked men believed to be armed entered the makeshift camp of the labourers at Somrei village under Ukhrul district around 2 am that day.

The masked men after few minutes took away JCB operator identified as one Deboshis Mondal (30) s/o Shyamsundar Mondal of Suri village, West Bengal and Roller operator Ch Ajit Sinha, also 30 years, s/o Ch Arun of Rabvir Ghat Part-2, Cachar, Assam.

Along with the two labourers there mobile phones and ATM cards have also been taken away by the kidnappers.

According to the police, there were 19 labourers engaging in the construction of the road from Thoubal to Kasom Khullen in Ukhrul district.

Though Somrei village falls under Ukhrul district, the place is under the jurisdiction of Yairipok police station, Thoubal district.

The spot where the incident had occurred is just 10 km east of the police station.
