Stage ready for hunger strike

As reported earlier, students of different colleges spearheaded by the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) are all set to launch hunger strikes from October 17 in protest against the government's failure to meet their demands of improvement of infrastructures and manpower in the colleges of the state.
Addressing media persons at DESAM's head office, Keishampat here today, Ph.
Baleshwor, Co-Convenor of the Co-Ordination Committee of All Colleges Union said the government has failed to meet their 11 charters of demand for the welfare of the students that stated in the memorandum which they had submitted to the State's education minister, education director (U) and the commissioner of education on September 19 last.
According to the memorandum, the union had demanded to fulfill its demand within 15 days from the date of submission of the memorandum.
"Despite our repetitive requests the government failed to address the grievances faced by the students of the state.
The demands we had mentioned in the memorandum had gone on deaf ears and moreover the deadline has also passed.
In order to give a wakeup call to the government we are going to start hunger strikes in different colleges of the state ", he added.
According to the union, colleges where the hunger will be carried are YK College, Thoubal; Kakching Khunou College, Kakching Khunou; Imphal College; Modern College; Biramangol College; DM College and GP College.
He warned that the union will take up intense violence agitations if the government does not fulfil the demands even after the democratic agitations till October 26 .
