16 bridges to be ready for use by March next year

Imphal, July 10 2013:
Altogether 16 bridges being constructed by the Bridge Division of State Public Works Department under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) and Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) in valley region would be ready for use by March next year.
According to an official source, the 16 bridges are being constructed in the areas of Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
The normal time period for construction of a bridge is about two years, but sometimes it takes more than three years due to certain unavoidable circumstances.
The officials of PWD have set a target for completion of the bridges during the current financial year 2013-14 .

The bridges include both RCC and bailey types and they are being constructed over major rivers such as Imphal River, Nambul River, Iril River and Manipur River at Singjamei, Bamon Leikai, Heingang, Yairipok, Thoubal Moijing, Thoubal Ningombam, Thoubal Leishangthem, Irong Ichil, Mayang Imphal, Sawombung, Nilakuthi and Wangoo.
The source further said that the bridges would facilitate better road connectivity in valley region.
The officials of PWD have been instructed strictly by higher authorities to complete the construction of these bridges by March next year.
Meanwhile, locals of Ningomthong, Kiyamgei and Lilong Arapti have urged the officials of PWD to repair the bridges in their respective areas as soon as possible.
