Local club, Headmaster decry pathetic condition of school, seek immediate repair

Jiribam, April 04 2018: Mongbung Lairembi Club and people of Mongbung, Jiribam today appealed Government to renovate the pathetic infrastructure of Mongbung Primary School in Jiribam before rainy season.

The appeal was made during a joint inspection of the school by the club with the Head Master of the school and media persons.

The school currently has only four teachers and a total of 57 students, said Th Saratkumar Singh, the Headmaster of the school.

Speaking to media persons, Th Saratkumar said the students and the teachers have been facing numerous problems.

The roofs have holes and the walls are coming off, said the Headmaster.

A recently constructed section of the school has been lying idle as the walls were destroyed by a falling tree, he said.

The inspection team including the media persons witnessed the hole-riddle roofs.

Inside the classroom, one could see the sky when looked up.

The walls of the school are literally falling, said our correspondent.

Complaints and appeals have been made to the concerned ZEO and MLA on a number of occasions regarding the condition of the school, said the Headmaster.

Photographs of the condition of the school were also presented to the ZEO.

Despite repeated appeals made, there is no development so far, asserted the Headmaster.

Expressing concern over the failure of the Government and authorities concerned to look into the deteriorating condition of the school, the Headmaster said the school can not function during rainy season in the present condition.

Rain will disrupt classes as the roofs are filled with holes.

The walls if not fixed will surely fall, he added.

Everything in the school is falling apart, the school has no toilet and kitchen (to provide mid-day meal).

People in the area and the teachers have been maintaining the school, he said.

President of the Mongbung Lairembi Club who took part in the inspection today said the school is a lone primary school in the area and three villages in the vicinity depend on the school for providing education to their children.

Poor families who have no means to send their wards to schools outside the village depends on the school, he said.

Considering the importance of the school for the community, he appealed the Govt and authorities concerned to look into the matter and take up necessary actions to renovate and improve the school at the earliest.
