CM meets Amit Shah, union ministers

Imphal, August 03 2021: Chief minister N Biren Singh, who is presently in New Delhi, met Union government leaders including home minister Amit Shah to discuss various pressing issues of the state on Tuesday.

During the meeting with Amit Shah, CM Biren stressed the need to further strengthen border security along international boundary in the state to effectively control anti-national activities such as the movement of insurgents, smuggling of drugs & arms, and illegal entry of foreigners in the region to which Amit Shah assured full support of the government to ensure adequate presence of security forces in Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar border.

The Chief Minister also called on defence minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to expedite the process for handing over of the Koirengei Old Airfield which is presently under defence establishment to the state government.

The CM reportedly assured an equivalent area of land in contiguity to the existing army headquarters at Leimakhong.

The defence minister assured of taking an early decision on the matter.

Biren then met finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and requested her to expedite sanctioning of the project for Rejuvenation of Lamphelpat Water-body to alleviate urban flooding, providing sustainable water sources for Imphal city and promote eco-tourism as an externally aided project.

The CM also requested Sitharaman to expedite the release of funds for the ongoing water supply projects in the state to facilitate earliest realisation of providing tap water to all households under the Jal Jeevan Mission'.

He also emphasised the need for early approval of the externally aided project with the assistance of Asian Development Bank for Manipur State Road Improvement Programme which will ensure comprehensive review and development of the existing road infrastructure including new roads.

The finance minister assured of full support of her ministry on all the above matters.

While meeting tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda, CM Biren highlighted the need to expedite the release of funds towards development of tribal areas in the Manipur at an early date.

He assured him of early completion of pending works of the ongoing projects in the state and requested the minister to expedite the release of allocated funds for the financial year 2021-22 so that the ongoing projects could be completed.

He also requested additional allocation in the current year especially for skill development of tribal youth and their linkages with sustainable livelihood.

The tribal affairs minister also assured of full cooperation from the ministry in resolving all pending issues and expediting the release of funds in the current year including additional allocation.
