Banned drugs worth Rs 35 lakhs seized

Imphal, May 27 2014: Police seized nearly 700 boxes of drugs from a house in Thoubal district today.

Seized drugs included 520 boxes (small) of SP tablets and 150 boxes of N-10 tablets.

Each box contains 10 strips of the drugs.

According to a statement issued by PRO, Police Department in this connection, acting on information about the possession of illegal drugs by one Md Sagir Ahmed (26) alias Abo s/o Md Abdulhei of Lilong Kaleikhong near NH 102, a team of Lilong Police Station assisted by members of Anjuman Islah-e-Muashrah conducted raid at the house of the individual this morning and seized 12800 numbers of N-10 tablets, 106907 numbers of SP capsules, one Electronic weighing machine and a sum of Rs 1, 72, 090 from his possession.

The approximate market value of the seized drugs is Rs 35 lakhs and a case has been registered at Lilong Police Station and investigation is going on.

On the other hand, based on specific information, police teams of NAB-PS seized 8880 numbers of SP capsules from unauthorized possession of one Md Amar Shah (20) s/o Illiyas Ahmed of Thoubal Moijing Makha Leikai today.

Md Amar was arrested from Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak near City Hospital, Imphal West along with the seized SP capsules.

The approximate market value of the seized drugs is Rs 90, 000 .

A case has been registered at Narcotics & Affairs of Border Police Station and investigation is going on, the release added.

Meanwhile, according to a PTI report, a truck from Manipur was today intercepted by personnel of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Bihar and Ganja worth Rs 21 lakh seized from it.

The narcotics consignment, concealed in 21 packets and hidden in specially designed cavity in the truck's body, was loaded near Imphal in Manipur.

It was being taken to Bhojpur district in Bihar, NCB sources said.

"Manipuri Ganja is considered the best in India and is much in demand.

We had secret information about the movement of the consignment and were keeping a tab on it through our resources," the sources said.

"Accordingly, we laid a trap on Mahatma Gandhi Bridge over the Ganga between Hajipur and Patna.

This is a big catch for us," the sources said.

Two persons, Abul Hussain of Assam and Sarabjit Singh of Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested in this connection.

They are allegedly part of an inter-state syndicate, the sources said.

The arrested persons were being interrogated to find out the destination of the consignment and their links in Bihar and other states.
