PWF award Rs 1,90,643 as medical assistance to journalists

Imphal, May 20 2020: The Paomee Welfare Foundation (PWF) on Wednesday disbursed Rs 1,90,643 as assistance under the Medical Financial Assistance (MFA) 2019-20, an annual scheme, offered in two phases interspersed by six months, informed a press release issued by PWF.

The team, led by its vice-chairperson Phanjoujam Pradip, handed over the financial assistance to the five beneficiaries of MFA 2019-20 in a simple distribution function held at the Manipur Press Club.

With the completion of MFA for the year 2019-20, PWF has invited application for MFA (first phase) for the year 2020-21 for treatment expenditure incurred between April 1 2020 to September 31 2020.The disbursement for the 202-21 first phase will be done in October 2020, it said.

Altogether, eight applications were received for 2019-20, out of which the Board rejected three applications on different grounds.

The 5 applications were forwarded to the Medical Board consisting of Dr A Santa Singh, director RIMS, Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh and Dr O Guneshwar Singh of JNIMS Hospital and Shija Hospital's managing director Dr Kh Palin.

After deliberating on the matter, the Board gave its recommendations following which Yumnam Homer Singh was awarded full coverage of his medical expenditure posthumously.

Homer, a reporter of Sangai Express had succumbed to acute pancreatitis and septic shock, it stated.

A team of PWF, led by its managing trustee and AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtam along with other trustees N Tombiraj, RK Nimai, Kh Naoba, Shanjit Laimapokpam, Jit Ningombam and trust secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum went to the resident of the demised journalist and handed over a cheque of Rs 80,000 to Anamika Kakchingtabam, the widow of the late journalist.

The team had also handed over the financial assistance to other beneficiaries at the Press Club earlier.

Imphal Free Press reporter, Laishram Ananjoy Singh, who suffered serious injuries during a road accident received Rs 80,000 towards the coverage of his medical bills while Thongbam Inaotomba of Peoples Chronicle was awarded Rs 35,000 for the treatment expenses of his wife suffering from chronic sinusitis.

Senior journalist Yambem Biren Meetei of Ichel Express and Sagolsem Imo Singh, editor of Peoples Chronicle also received Rs 20,000 and Rs 18,000 respectively towards their treatment bill, it said.
