National Fire Service Week begins

The National Fire Service Week was kicked off at the Directorate of Manipur Fire Service complex, M-Sector under the theme "Unite to Ignite: A Fire-Safe India" yesterday.
The 7-day observance organised by the Manipur Fire Service under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs is set to conclude on April 20.On the occasion, Amakcham Jillangamba Singh, Sub-Officer Fire Station Imphal, Okram Ningthem Meitei, Fireman of Fire Station, Imphal and Isha Ahamed, Fireman, Moreh Fire Sub-Station were honoured with the Commendation Certificate and Bronze Disc Award conferred by the Director General, Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guard (DG FS, CD&HG), Ministry of Home Affairs.
Additionally, Manipur Fire Service Director presented the Best Firefighter of the Year 2025 award to 10 firefighters from different stations.
Addressing the gathering, L Nabachandra, Director, Manipur Fire Service said that the Fire Service Week honours the brave firefighters who lost their lives in the tragic fire and explosions at Victoria Dock, Mumbai port on April 14, 1944 .
Stating that Manipur has 19 fire stations and 288 firemen, he informed that they responded to a total of 1223 fires and 36 special service incidents, saving properties worth crores as well as precious human lives.
