Imphal, December 11 2010: Police are here to help people at all times particularly in times of woe and suffering, state DGP Y Joykumar said asserting that it is the utmost duty of the police to build up a trusting relation between the government and the people.

The DGP said this while distributing blankets with monetary assistance to the elderly people in the community hall of Arong Nongmaikhong village in Thoubal district today.

He distributed one blanket and ' 100 each to at least 94 elderly people of the village.

Speaking at the distribution function as chief guest, DGP Y Joykumar said that policemen too are also humans.

Even though people see them as men of action, they still have the heart to love.

It is the bounden duty of the police to uplift government-people relationships.

Manipur Police Department does not have adequate funds like that of police departments in other states.Funds allocated to the police department of the state is meager.

This is the reason why despite its desire to extend help to the people, the department is not able to do full justice.

Despite the shortcomings Joykumar assured that the police department will extend all possible help to the people of Arong Nongmaikhong and other remote areas where government and police find it difficult to reach out a helping hand.

He made it clear that to bring development education is of prime importance.

He assured that his department is ready to extend help to the poor and needy families to send their children to school.

He said the police department has decided to help at least some of the poor and needy children in pursuing their studies.

He asked the local club to prepare a list of children of poor and needy families who could not afford their education and to submit it to him so that the police department could look after their needs.

The DGP recognising the poor living conditions of the villagers assured that he will address their problems to the knowledge of the ministers concerned.

He also announced that the ongoing construction of the police station in the village will be completed soon and will be functional before next year's Republic Day.

The DGP was accompanied by his wife Yumnam (O) Ibempishak who helped him in the distribution function.

Thoubal SP, Clay Khongsai and Bishnupur SP, K Jayentakumar was part of the DGP's team.

After the function, the DGP along with officials inspected the ongoing construction work of the police station at Arong.

He was not satisfied with the progress of the work and instructed the contractor to speed up the work so that it could be completed within the targeted period.

Interestingly, villagers in large numbers came out to have an audience with the visiting DGP.

They also pleaded the DGP to draw the government's attention in improving road communication in the village.

The villagers said, there is only one school which has not infrastructure including a building.

toilets, or furniture.

The DGP extended a personal help of '40,000 to acquire furniture for the school.
