Don't meddle, says UNC

Imphal, June 04 2015 : The United Naga Council (UNC) has appreciated the decision of the Mao Council in lifting the indefinite economic blockade along NH-2 with immediate effect after the intervention of Naga Hoho, UNC and NPO, in the Dzuko Valley issue that cropped up between two Naga families in the recent past.

The UNC, in a statement, appealed to SAPO and Mao Council to refrain from aggravating the situation while also appealing to all concerned to promote peace and harmony in the spirit of brotherhood and neighbourhood and in the larger interest of the Nagas.

At the same time, the UNC said that Manipur State sponsored valley based civil societies should desist from interfering in the internal affairs of the Naga family by imposing bandh/ blockade in Naga areas in future.

In case of such events, the Government of Manipur should be held responsible for any untoward consequences.

"Every Naga village republic share traditional boundaries with neighbouring villages.

Traditional boundaries are respected and honoured till today since time immemorial and it is our bounden duty to uphold one's principle of traditional values and practices.

Any disputes arising out of such matters within the Naga family are traditionally and amicably settled through mutual trust and understanding without outside intervention/interference," the UNC said.

Pointing out that the 3rd Naga Peoples' Convention (NPC) held on July 1, 2010 at Tahamzam (Senapati) had declared severance of political ties with the communal' Government of Manipur and demanded Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending Indo-Naga political settlement, the UNC said outsiders are advised not to interfere in the affairs of the Naga family.
