Visit of Special Observers cancelled, representatives of 10 political parties meet CEO

Imphal, February 21 2012:
Three Special Observers and two officials from Election Commission of India (ECI) who were schedule arrived here tomorrow on a one-day visit have reportedly cancelled their visit without assigning any reasons.
The Special Observers were planning to visit the state tomorrow to meet leaders of all the political parties who have lodged complaints with CEO and ECI over alleged malpractices in the recent election to the state Assembly.
The State Election Office was making necessary arrangements in connection with the proposed visit of ECI officials and the political parties have been intimated to come to the State Election Office for meeting the Observers.
The meeting was planned to be started from 2 pm.
The teleconferencing, which was also supposed to be held today between the officials of the ECI and the officials of State Election Office, too has been cancelled.
Following the cancellation of the visit of ECI officials, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur has reportedly left Imphal for Delhi today to meet the officials of ECI.
Meanwhile, the representatives of 10 political parties of the state met Chief Electoral Officer, PC Lawmkunga at Congress Bhawan today.
L Jatra of MPP, Ksh Shanta of CPI (M), Sarat of NCP, Devabratta of MSCP, Iboyaima of Trinamool Congress and Tombi of JD-U were present in the meeting.
The delegates of the 10 political parties pressed the CEO for going ahead with counting of the votes after excluding all the bogus votes.
