State cop held for bike thefts in Delhi

New Delhi, March 24 2014: It was a secret mission that brought Mohammed Fakruddin, a special commando in Manipur police, to the capital on a week's holiday.

It would have remained a secret but for the Delhi Police which found out what the mission was � stealing high speed motorbikes and transporting these by train to Manipur.

Cops said Fakruddin had teamed up with a science graduate, Satyajit Sharma, for the crime.

The two only targeted high speed bikes which were apparently in high demand in Manipur.

They transported the bikes through railway parcels, which were received by their contact in Manipur.

Cops have recovered four stolen bikes from them.

They were to be paid between Rs 20,000 to 30,000 for each, police said.

Fakruddin is a commando with the Indian reserve battalion, a special force under Manipur police.

Police said he had come to Delhi for the first time for stealing vehicles after taking one week off from service.

His accomplice, Satyajit Sharma, has been booked thrice earlier on similar charges.

The cops have written to their counterparts in Manipur and the commando is likely to be dismissed from service.

When The Sangai Express contacted a well placed source on the matter, the source said that the arrested cop could be one Md Fakhruddin son of Md Rashud Ahmed of Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai (Rifleman number 15007223) of 5 IRB but attached to Imphal West police commandos.

The source said that he has been absent since December 2013 and added that no official intimation has been received from Delhi.

The SP (CID-Crime Branch)� through whom the information is to be channelised as per norms� denied having receive any information in this regard from the Delhi police.

Fakruddin and Sharma came to Delhi last week.

On March 21, they stole a bike in RK Puram which belonged to an official in the agriculture ministry.

The official is also from Manipur.

"During the course of investigations, a team led by ACP HM Bakshi and SHO (Sunlight Colony) Om Prakash Lekhpal arrested them from their hideout in the Ashram area.

A third associate managed to flee and we are looking for him," said DCP southeast P Karunakaran.

During interrogation, the duo admitted that they would steal bikes from the city for a few days and send them by train to their hometown in Manipur, where one of their contacts would sell them cheap.

They would generally target fast bikes as these were in great demand in the state.

Police said that a case of theft under section 378 IPC has been registered against them and Manipur police has been asked to arrest the receiver of the stolen bikes.
