Imphal, December 12: Following the full fledged battle of the turf between the armed wing of the UNLF, MPA and the Indian security force at the Indo Myanmar border, especially at Chandel and Churachandpur districts, hundreds of villagers have fled to neighbouring Myanmar to avoid the face off between the two forces.

According to reports received from the other side of the border, 110 villagers from Somtal and Seljang in Chandel district are presently taking shelter at the Immigration Office at Tamu in Myanmar.

The displaced villagers were to be handed over to the Indian authority today but that was put off as the necessary file work processed at Yangon are yet to be completed.

The Myanmarese authority is for the moment providing fooding and lodging to the displaced villagers.

Sources however said that four villages in the vicinity of Tamu are providing fooding and lodging to the villagers.

Another 200 villagers from the surrounding areas of New Sonrital and Seljang are also currently taking shelter at Wokham village in Myanmar.

An all community meeting was held at Moreh today where the villagers decided to extend all their help to the displaced villagers when they are handed over to the State Government The meeting agreed to arrange the necessary fooding and lodging for the villagers.

As reported in the State dailies in the last many days heavy fighting has broken out between the proscribed MPA and the Indian Army in Dingpi area ever since the security force launched an offensive in October.

AR captain killed in encounter with Myanmar rebels: An Assam Rifles captain and three militants of a Myanmar based insurgent outfit were killed in an encounter at Vaphai hamlet near the Mizoram-Myanmar international border, police said today.

Captain Sanjay Kumar, AR commander of Khawbung outpost, was gunned down by Chin Integration Army (CIA) yesterday, Champhai District Superintendent of Police F Lalhuliana told PTI over phone.

The CIA, led by Ngunuklian also suffered casualties with three of its militants killed, he said.

Unconfirmed reports from the area, however, put the casualty figure at five, including a coolie of the Assam Rifles.

Lalhuhana said details of the encounter were waited.

The CIA ultras who indulge in extortion in the border areas, were armed with sophisticated weapons like AK-47 assault rifles and US made M-16 rifles and numbered about 15."We still do not know whether the insurgents ambushed the AR patrol as the State police no longer visit the areas due to operations being launched by the AR against Myanmarese insurgent groups like the Chin National Army," he said.
