Despite Physics question paper leakage....COHSEM rules out re-exam

Imphal, April 10 2017: Maintaining that the question paper for HSE 2017 Physics exam got leaked after the exam process had been initiated and seals of the question sets were broken at all exam centres, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) has ruled out re-examination of Physics paper.

Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, COHSEM Secretary Dr M Bidyasagar said the question papers, answer sheets and other exam materials were stored at nearby treasury or strong rooms two or three days before the exam dates for all exam centres located in different districts including greater Imphal areas.

As for 35 exam centres which are located close to COHSEM office, the exam materials were delivered to exam centres by Supervising Officers on the exam days.

However, seals of question sets are broken at around 9.15 am and due arrangements are made to distribute question sets to different rooms at far off centres.

These are laid out in the examination rules given to OCs of exam centres , Bidyasagar said.

The unfortunate incident which took place on the day of Physics exam was the handiwork of some self-centred, dishonest elements.

As the leakage of question paper was detected only after the exam process had started and seals of question sets had been broken, the authority concerned has not given permission for re-exam, the COHSEM Secretary told media persons.

In connection with the question leakage, OC Md Abdur Rahaman of Galaxy Institute, AOC Nongmaithem Mohen, Gurumayum Prem-chand and SI Nameirakpam Romesh of the same institute have been pulled up.

As compared to last year, this year's exam started one month later but students would face lots of inconveniences regarding admission under different universities and appearing several entrance exams if the results are not declared by May 30 .

Moreover, as different from the previous examination and marking systems, maximum efforts are being invested to highlight merit list, divisions according to marks secured, distinction with letter marks etc in the results of this year's exam.

Earlier, there were Council centres and private centres but all centres were made Council centres this year and there were 92 centres.

However, due to unavoidable circumstances, five centres were given at their respective schools/colleges.

In addition to stationing one Supervising Officer at each exam centre, 60 flying squads were pressed into service everyday.

Apart from volunteers of student bodies, the exam process was also monitored by Deputy Commissioners, said the COHSEM Secretary.

Codification can be achieved very soon as bar code has been used in answer sheets with a view to render identification of students by examiners impossible.

So far, 33 students have been expelled from the exam.

On behalf of COHSEM, Bidyasagar conveyed gratitude to the Education Minister, Chief Secretary, Education Commissioner, Imphal West SP, Additional SP and the cyber crime unit for their immense contribution toward holding the exam in a free and fair manner.
