Two soldiers hurt in encounter, UGs held

Imphal, October 06 2012: At least two personnel of 6/8 Gorkha Rifles were injured in an encounter with suspected militants today that took place at Kheljang village under Loktak PS in Churachandpur district while Assam Rifles troops were engaged in gunfight by suspected militants at two different locations in the State today.

Sources said that suspected militants laid an ambush on the foot patrolling team of 6/8 GR at around 9.30am today, at Kheljang village, about seven kilometres from Loktak PS .

An ensuing exchange of gunfires resulted in the injury of two soldiers of the 6/8 GR, the sources said.

The injured soldiers were identified as Lance Naik Manos Subba and Rifleman Anil Adhikari.

Manos suffered bullet injury at the right leg while Anil was hit by a bullet at the stomach.

The two injured soldiers were airlifted to Red Shield Hospital at Leimakhong.

The condition of Anil is said to be critical.

Meanwhile, reports of an encounter taking place between troops of 39 AR and suspected militants in Singhat area in Churachandpur district was received today.

Sources also said that an encounter took place between 9 Assam Rifles and unidentified militants at Khudengthabi along Imphal-Moreh stretch of NH-2 .

No casualty has been reported at the shoot-out in Singhat area and Khudengthabi from either side.

Two held: Troops of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector apprehended two PLA cadres alongwith arms, ammunition and explosive materials yesterday.

Discovering the presence of UG cadres in Namukhong Wakchinglok of Thoubal district, troops of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under Hqs IGAR(S) alongwith Thoubal District Police personnel launched joint operation in the area and nabbed the two cadres, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .

The apprehendees have been identified as No 2037 self styled Cpl Paolinmol Vaiphei alias Momoi alias Moi (25) s/o Kailun Vaiphei of Kananphai Andro Khunou Tarongthel and Mangleanlal Vaiphei (23) s/o Soigingthang Vaiphei of Molkonbong.

One 9 mm pistol with magazine, three live rounds, two kgs of plastic explosives and two detonators were recovered from their possession.

On interrogation, the press release added, the cadres revealed that they were tasked to plant IED against security forces in Thoubal district.

The duo alongwith the recoveries were handed over to Thoubal Police Station, said the press release.

In yet another incident, the release said, troops of 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under Hqs IGAR(S) intercepted an unexploded grenade from the road near Minuthong transit Camp in the early morning today.

The foot patrol of the Unit, while carrying out search of the area found the grenade placed on the side of the road alongwith a demand letter of PREPAK.

The area was cordoned off by the troops and bomb disposal squad of Imphal West Police informed.

Later, they retrieved same, added the press release.
