Children's Theatre workshop concludes, Pung production staged under CMAT

Imphal, September 28 2026: A month-long Children Theatre workshop organised by Children's Cultural Centre, Manipur under Chief Ministergi Artistessingi Tengbang (CMAT) scheme concluded on Sunday with staging of production play "Shamu Angoubagi Machanupi".

The valedictory function held at MDU Hall, Yaiskul Police Lane was attended by Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory director Dr Yumnam Sadananda and Children's Cultural Centre, Manipur president Romi Lamabam as presidium members.

Certificates were distributed to participating children.

Advisor of the centre Dr Lamabam Gojendra said the play emphasises that humans should not destroy nature and all creatures should live with love, and aims to showcase children's talent.

He said children's theatre is very important and is thriving in many parts of India.

With NEP focusing on awareness of indigenous practices and cultural activities, schools are giving thrust to theatre, and efforts will be made to promote children's theatre, he added.

In another CMAT-supported programme, a 'Pungyam Yeiba' performance programme organised by North Eastern Culture Academy, Napet Palli was held on Saturday at Nungoi Khuraijam Mamdopta in Imphal East.

Lamlai AC MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha attended as chief guest, retired Headmaster Saikhom Tomba and JNMDA director P Bilash as guests of honour and Joint Director, Art and Culture Department G Dharmadas Sharma as president.

Kh Ibomcha said CMAT provides benefits to artistes and hoped that emergence of many cultural academies will produce new artistes who will work on the world stage.
