Senapati, May 14 2024:
A joint survey of the Senapati-Phaibung road was conducted by an official team of PWD, district administration and BRTF, along with Senapati-Phaibung road committee members on Tuesday.
The survey was led by Committee president N Benjamin Tao and colleagues along with Mathew (EE, PWD-Senapati Division), SDC Neli and Tripathi (AE, BRTF/84 RCC).
According to Committee members, the said road was sanctioned in 2001 under the Prime Minister's special package and was undertaken by the 25 BRTF as work agency in 2002.Unfortunately, the road with a length of 128 km could not be completed even after 21 years and the present
existing road condition of the road which connects 18 villages is in pathetic condition.
The road starting from TNK Senapati is a vital connectivity for many villages located till Phaibung village under Phaibung sub-division.
The survey has; been conducted following repeated protests and reminders by the villagers headed by SP road committee to repair and complete the much neglected otherwise highly dependent road.
During the joint survey, the team was warmly received by different village leaders including headman & village authorities.
In the course of interaction with the village leaders, they expressed their grievances and resentment over gross negligence and step motherly altitude towards the development of SP Road.
The villagers strongly urged authorities concerned to initiate speedy completion of the road.
However, the BRTF officials blamed the state government for failure to pay the state share of 10 per cent.
Nevertheless, the villagers maintained that the BRTF/84 RCC should not be withdrawn until the road construction works are completed as agreed upon in the MoU.
The villagers also appealed to the Manipur government to release the pending 10 per cent of state share towards the construction of SP Road at the earliest in the interest the poor people living in the remote villages.
