Imphal, September 06 2011:
Clearing any possible doubt, confusion and apprehension from the minds of the general public, specially village chiefs and civil organisations in the areas dominated by it, chairman of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) SK Thadou has explained that the peace pact initiated has reached the final stage of drafting a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Manipur and there is no question of rejection.
But it has been only been suspended on account of a ploy played by an officer of a security force who dreams of equal share of credit in connivance with arrested leaders of the other UTLA faction.
So, people should not be mislead.
The chairman pointed out that 'we had earlier agreed to abjure violence, extortion, etc, so that we can find a lasting solution to the problems being faced by the people through peaceful negotiations with the Government'.
Subsequently, talks made have made good progress and the charter of demands submitted to the Government had also been agreed upon.
Therefore, it is upto to the Government of Manipur whether to take notice of the genuine demands and wishes of the people or play into the hands of the drama created out of the arrest of a cadre who might have stuck a deal with the officer who arrested him.
