Imphal, April 05 2009: Works minister K Ranjit today said that AFSPA which the MPP and its candidate Th Chaoba promised the people of removing if voted to power was imposed during the period of Chaoba as MP from Manipur.

The Minister said this while addressing an election meeting for Congress candiate held today at Keishamthong organised by the Keishamthong Kendra Congress Block.

Among others, the function was attended by IFCD Minister, N Biren, Education Minister, L Jayentakumar and MLA Bijoy Koijam.

Ranjit said that when Chaoba was sent to the Lok Sabha for three times, AFSPA was there during his tenure.

While he couldn't do anything when he was in power, now he is talking about removing the Act.

Criticising the MPP, Ranjit further wondered, even if Chaoba is sent to Parliament, in what language he is going to argue with the other MPs.

Apart from this, as he is a nominee of a regional party, he can't do anything on the floor of the Parliament.

Pointing to O Joy, the senior most leader of MPP, he said, O Joy who was asked to contest himself had insisted to Choaba for the candidature as he knows that MPP candidate could not win the election in any way.

O Joy himself during a press conference in 1999 had said that Choaba is not worthy of being a candidate of MP but it would more suited for sending out as candidate of gram panchayat or Zilla parishad.

Many things which political parties had mentioned in their manifestos to perform like, shifting of AR from Kangla forth, connecting rail head upto Imphal, conversion of MU into Central University etc.

have been converted into action during congress rule even though the party less talk on the matters, Ranjit said.

Development could not be brought about in a day, it will take time.

With various policies and programmes taken up by the SPF government, there has been a big change in the state, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Bijoy Koijam turning towards CPI candidate, Dr M Nara said when he was an MLA he talk nothing on the floor of the state Assembly.

He will not able to repeal AFSPA at any cost.

Congress had left nothing undone if once promised.

AFSPA has started lifting from part of the state and as congress already given commitment, the same will be lifted from other parts further, he assured the gathering.

He also criticized MPP alleging that the division of hills and valley was the policy of the MPP.

To ease the same, Congress has made busy.

With the effort of the Congress now the good relation and brotherhood love between the hills and valley people has started restoring.

Instead of testing alternative government, do believed to Dr T Meinya, congress nominee, he appealed reminding that "rolling stone gather no moss." Minister, Jayenta said MPP candidate Choaba who is talking about minority and majority does not know the meaning of the words.
