Imphal, September 23 2015 : State Cabinet on Wednesday reviewed the prevailing situation in trouble-hit Churachandpur and other hill districts and discussed various ways and means to restore peace in the areas affected by unrest.

Nine people lost their lives in Churachandpur during the violent protest that erupted following the passing of three Bills in the State Assembly on August 31 .

The Cabinet also decided to push for appointing a Centre's interlocutor for initiating political dialogue with Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People's Front (UPF) now under Suspension of Operation (SoO) to bring about a permanent solution, Government Spokesperson M Okenbdro said.

He said the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi began at 3 pm at the CM's Secretariat.

Okendro, who is the Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Minister said the Cabinet discussed various ways and means to end the current unrest in Churachandpur and other hill districts and bring back normalcy to the areas.

The Cabinet also approved to extend the maternity leave period to 180 days from 135 days as per the recommendation of Central 6th Pay Commission, Okendro added.

Plan to hold Civil Services Examination every year was also deliberated during the meeting which decided to include scheduled dates in the calendar for the preliminary, mains and viva-voce for the exam conducted by Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC).

The Cabinet approved direct recruitment of 13 posts of MCS, 16 posts of MPS, 41 posts of SDC and four posts of MSS, and one post of Election Officer, Okendro added.

He said that the Cabinet further decided to acquire land measuring about 108.55 acre in the areas of the two revenue villages of 4-Chingkhu and 11-Khundrakpam for setting up a film industry/film city for the State.

The State Government has also decided to give one time incentive cash awards to all medal winners and coaches of the 34th National Games and 35th National Games.

Okendro said the Cabinet also decided to set up a Food Commission as an initial step for implementing National Food Security Act, 2013 in the State.

The Cabinet further approved the Draft Manipur State Water Policy, 2015 and to establish a Manipur Tourism Corporation, besides giving approval in principle for the Draft Manipur Cultural Policy, he informed.

The Government has approved recruitment of 192 contractual employees under ICDS Mission and to outsource 10 posts of data entry, Okendro said.
