More stranded people arrive at Kpi, Nemcha Kipgen reaches out to frontline workers, CSOs

Kangpokpi, May 20 2020: As many more stranded people arrive in Kangpokpi district, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen visited the District Headquarters to take stock of the situation while also reaching out to the frontline workers and local CSOs with various protective gears.

Nemcha Kipgen, who is also the local MLA of 50-Kangpokpi AC and in-charge Minister of Kangpokpi and Senapati for COVID-19, distributed various protective gears including masks, face shield, foot operated hand sanitizer, gloves, etc to the District CMOs, police, KYU, KWWO and other frontline workers.

Bleaching powders, sodium hydrochloride and fuel were also provided by the Minister for emergency use.

Nemcha expressed that with the influx of more stranded people, it is very important to take care of the frontline workers and CSOs who work tirelessly day and night waiting for the returnees, screening them and serving them.

She also assured that she will not let protective gears run short for the frontline workers adding that their sacrifice for the people is immeasurable.

The Minister also exhorted the District Administration, District Police and Medical Department to ensure the comfort of the returnees.

The distribution of PPEs was held at the District Screening Centre/Centralized Arrival Point at Brig M Thomas Ground in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Dr Nilakanta Singh, SP Kangpokpi Hemant Pandey, District Screening Centre in-charge Lalramsang Infimate, ADM/ADC Kangpokpi, Addl SP Kangpokpi, Lalminlen Misao and other concerned officials as well as local CSOs leaders.

The Minister also visited the COVID-19 Emergency Food Kiosk which is an initiative of the ADC Sadar Hills and run by the local KWWO and KYU and provided them with sugar, tea leaf, milk, masks, hand sanitizers, face shield, head cover, etc.

She also interacted with the leaders of KWWO and KYU who have been rendering commendable community service at the District Screening Centre and catering to the returnees.

KYU leaders also cleaned the screening centres and made parking arrangement for officials, volunteers, stranded returnees, etc.

Meanwhile, more stranded people arrived yesterday and this afternoon.

As on May 19, around 207 people were under surveillance at the five Institutional Quarantine Centres while 204 people were under surveillance at 54 Community Quarantine Centres set up in the district.

A total of 183 samples were collected today at 3 Institutional Quarantine Centres.
