Imphal, October 05 2016:
The JAC Against Anti-Tribal Bills has reiterated the stand that a 12 hour general strike will be imposed in all tribal areas of the State from 6 am of October 7 and added that the repeated attempts of the State Government to pass a fresh Bill is deviously similar to the rejected Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 .
In a statement issued to the press today, the JAC said that it and the OMTF will not accept any new Bill that affects the tribal people and their ancestral territories.
In addition to the anti-tribal Bills, the age old yearning of the dominant valley community to annex tribal territories and grab the meagre rights and privileges of the tribal people has become all that more evident with the demand that the Meiteis be included in the Scheduled Tribe list, added the statement.
The JAC urged all the tribals of the State to observe the bandh as a sign of resentment and protest against the communal policies of the State Government as well as the dominant community.
Media houses, medical emergencies, telecom, electricity, airport pick up and drop, weddings, school/college examinations, annual sports and pre-planned conferences/ seminars/programmes will be exempted from the purview of the general strike, added the statement.
