Puya Mei Thaba commemoration held at Sangaiprou Kabui khul

Imphal, January 03 2012: As part of the 283rd anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba commemoration, Black Day was observed at Sangaiprou Kabui khul and Ima Keithel today.

The commemoration is being organized under the joint aegis of International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP) and MNF, Kangleipak.

In the observance held at Sangaiprou, Khullakpa of Sangaiprou Kabui Khul Kadudai Kamei, Chief Convener of ICOP Anwari Nurjahan and convener of Finance Sub Committee Laishram Nongmaileima graced the function as presidium members.

Speaking at the occasion, Anwari Nurjahan said that many Puyas written in original Kanglei scripts were burnt in front of Kangla Utra Shanglen by the then King Pamheiba (Garibniwaj) at the behest of non Manipuri monk Santidas Goshai.

Since then the close relationship between the hills and plain people began to part slowly with the introduction of caste system in the state.

Fortunately, the caste system which prevailed in the society has been reduced visibly over the years.

In order to regain the close relationships between the people of hills and plain, it is very important to study the past history, he said.

The Black Day was also observed at Ima Keithel, Imphal under the aegis of Ima Panthoibi Loishang Sana Keithel.

At the occasion, President of the organisation Liklaileima urged the people to dedicate themselves in building a close relationship among all the communities in the state.

Meanwhile, as part of the commemoration, teachers and students of Brajalal Institute of Science,Moirangkhom, Universal Students' Academy Singjamei, Imphal Public Higher Secondary, Canchi Academy, Dineshwori Higher Secondary School, Standard Robert Higher Secondary School, Triveni Public School, Khongjom Standard English School and Suraj English School, Lilong Chajing wore black badges today.

The main function of the 283rd Anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba will be held on January 16 at Iboyaima Shumaang Leela Shanglen.

On the day, a rally to be participated by people from both the hills and the valley will be taken out in the morning.

The rally would be flagged off at 8 am from Palace Compound and concluded at Kangla.

Upon reaching Kangla, participants will offer floral tributes at Kangla Utra Shanglen in remembrance of the forefathers of Manipur.
