Modern Subika Art exhibition kicks off

An exhibition of Sapha Yumnam's Modem Subika Art was inaugurated today at the Department of Fine Arts, Manipur University.
Sapha Yumnam is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Fine Arts in Manipur University.
Professor Naorem Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University kicked off the three-day exhibition by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
74 works created by Sapha Yumnam, including a bronze sculpture, are on display at the exhibition organised by the Department of Fine Arts, MU .
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Naorem Lokendrd shared that Subika is an indigenous style of art.
The University should support Dr Sapha's endeavour and help in popularizing this art style, said the MU VC .
Speaking in this connection, Sapha Yumnam said that Subika Art refers to the style of painting as seen in ancient manuscripts or Puya/Khorbe.
Stating that this artform is rarely seen in the public domain, he said that he had the opportunity to study it from a few books belonging to curator Mutua Bahadur.
Thus, with a goal to revive the old artform, he took up Modem Subika Art.
The event was also graced by Mutua Bahadur, Director, Mutua Museum and Professor Soibam Imoba Singh.
