Imphal, July 26 2014 :
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Women's Wing is set to stage torch rallies in various parts of the State tomorrow night deman-ding ILPS implementation and unconditional release of arrested students and Women Wing members, who are currently lodged in jail.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club late this evening, JCILPS Women Wing member L Memchoubi strongly condemned police excesses meted out to agitating students on July 24 .
Although, the matter had been passed by the State Cabinet and State Assembly on different occasions, it is being sidelined by the State Government on the excuse that it needs Centre's nod, she added.
Questioning why MLAs and Government are acting as mute spectators although the situation is worsening day by day, Memchoubi expressed serious concern over their stoic silence on the issue.
Saying that closure of educational institutes could not suppress people's agitation, Memchoubi said that such Government's move would further aggravate the situation.
Memchoubi also appealed the general public to take out torch rallies in their respective localities tomorrow from 6 pm to 8 pm.
In this regard, she urged the local clubs, NGOs and CSOs to extend support and cooperation to the rally.
On the other hand, Memchoubi demanded unconditional immediate release of arrested students and Women Wing members, who are currently lodged in Sajiwa Central Jail and Imphal Central Jail.
She said that the agitation would continue until and unless ILPS is enforced in the State.
