Five UG cadres arrested

Imphal, May 05 2012: A joint team of 18 SIKH under 9 Sector Assam Rifles, 24 Assam Rifles under 26 Sector Assam Rifles and Bishenpur Police commandos apprehended two PLA cadres from Leimaram Awang Leikai during an operation launched on the night of May 4 .

The apprehended cadres are identified as Army No 2533 SS Pvt Mongjam Abung Singh alias Nongkham (25) s/o M Bira Singh of Taothong Khunao, Lamsang and army no 2423 SS Pvt Wangkhem Telheiba Singh (26) s/o W Biren Singh of Lamboi Khongnangkhong, Lamphel.

The duo had come with aim of collecting extortion money from Nambol.

One 9mm pistol along with three live rounds and a mobile handset were recovered from the duo.

On questioning the duo revealed a name of their associate of the banned UG outfit UNLF as army no 2316 SS Pvt Takhellambam Ton Singh @ Lemba @ Langonba (24) s/o T Jayanta Singh of Uripok Achom Leikai.

He was later apprehended in a joint follow up operation from Kabowakching Makha Leikai while he was returning from Nambol.

He had also come to the area to carry out extortion.

A 9mm pistol and a mobile handset were recovered from him.

The three cadres were actively involved in the prejudicial activities of extortion, smuggling of weapons and recruitment of new cadres into the banned outfits.

Subsequently all three UG's were handed over to Nambol Police.

Meanwhile, troops of 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation in Pangal Basti, Moreh and apprehended on UPPK cadre on May 4 .

The apprehendee has been identified as SS Pvt Abul Hashi alias Boboy (28) s/o Abdul Hakim of Moreh Ward no 5.One 9 mm pistol with magazine and five 9 mm live rounds were recovered from the possession of the apprehendee who was subsequently handed over to Imphal West Police Station along with the recovery, PRO Assam Rifles informed in a statement.

On the other hand, Imphal West District Police Commandos arrested on active member of KCP (MC) and one gang member/ dacoit during search operation in front of Pratap Talies in Paona Bazar and Allugali area near the Sulab complex at around 9.55 am yesterday.

According to a statement issued by SP of Imphal West district, the arrestees were identidid as Md Nazir Hussain (31) s/o Md Abful Jei of Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi and KH Imtiyas (21) s/o KH Hussain of Kshetri Mayai Leikai.
