Imphal, May 31 2009: Being the daughter of a driver and a staff nurse and her simple upbringing in rural area of Kakching has never deterred brilliant Waikhom Nydia Devi of Padma Ratna English School, Kakching to become topper in the just declared High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2009 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur.

The second daughter of Waikhom Tombi, a driver, and Moirangthem Ningol Waikhom Ongbi Radhamani, a staff nurse in the state Health Department, of Kakching Super Market, Waikhom Nydia has scored letter marks in all the subjects and maintained the total tally at 637 .

But what comes as a little surprise is the fact that Nydia, an engineer aspirant, never maintained a strict routine of study hours and never put herself to pressurise when she has no mood to study.

Whenever she is out of the mood, she just switches her attention to watching TV and relaxes with her siblings, which has also been her hobby.

Attributing her incredible triumph solely to her parents, Nydia is all set to turn her back the round robin bandhs and wildcat strikes and pursue her secondary education in Science stream at Narayanan Junior College, Hyderabad.

She is planting her feet deep to study engineering course at one of the reputed IITs."The frequent bandh and strikes in Manipur which hamper the academic progress of the students, and the monopolisation by some Imphal-based schools have convinced me to pursue my further studies outside the state," Nydia said.

Nydia further said she will turn down any offer of scholarship by some well-known secondary schools of Manipur in case she pursues her study here.

"Struggle with firm determination and self confident to achieve success in life," Nydia candidly spells out.

Second position holder Pareeton Ningombam expressed his willingness to become aero space scientist after clearing the IIT exam.

But for time being he did not go outside the state for further study.

The second position Pareeton of Catholic School, Canchipur hailing from Khongman Zone-II, Imphal east is the youngest son of N Birendra and ningombam ongbi Bilashini.

He got 619 marked.

He secured letter marks in seven subjects.

His parent is serving at the state IFCD.

He wanted to complete his class-XII at HRD Academy, Ghari and appeared IIT exam as hec wanted to become an aero space scientist.

He studied six hour a day while preparing for the metric exam and he took private tuition in most of the subjects.

His hobby is reading journal and novels.

From nursery to standard-V at Paradise Academy, Lokloubung, then joint to Catholic School for further study.

He credited his success to his teachers and parents.

Speaking on the present situation of the state, he lamented that calling bandh by a body for certain demand greatly affected in the academic atmosphere and wanted to leave the habit of calling bandh blockade etc.

and find other means to fulfill their demands.

He also wanted to lead a life of peace by bringing an end to the insurgency problem through dialogue in the state.

Third position holder Yenshembam Chetan of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur said imposition of bandh, blockade etc.

greatly affect the normal academic atmosphere.

He is eldest son of the van driver Iboyaima and housewife Purnima.

Self confident and try hard is the only way to success, Chetan confided.

He credited his success to almighty.

He read 10 hours a day on the average while preparing for the exam and go to private tutor for improving his knowledge.

He also choose to study in one of the private schools in the state upto Standard-XII and go outside the state for further study and try civil service.

His hobby is watching TV, listening to music and playing cricket.
