Imphal, April 26 2019: Following the alarming rise in case of people either getting shocked or in unfortunate case getting electrocuted, in the State in recent times, an emergency meeting of the Managing Directors of the two power companies MSPDCL and MSPCL, DGMs and top officials was convened to identify the underlying cause of the problem and find possible solutions to the issue.

During the meeting, it was resolved that the officials will inspect certain locations as well as find out the fallen electric posts, posts which have begun leaning, snapped wires etc so as to initiate proper repair works.

According to a reliable source, the Power Department has become concerned with the alarming rise in cases of electric shock and electrocution mainly in remote areas of the State, mostly hills, in recent times.

The source conveyed that with the coming of prepaid meter system in the State, it can now be said that power is available non-stop everyday.

However, there are still many areas where the condition of the transformers, wires and posts are deplorable at best even today.

Taking into consideration the urgent need for safeguarding the people from the hazards posed by such exposed and unguarded electrical equipment, the MDs of MSPDCL, MSPCL and top officials of the Power Department, held an emergency meeting yesterday, the source informed.

The source continued that during the meeting, it was resolved that officials will conduct at least two-three visits to the remote areas of the State to check the transformers/wires/electric posts and submit a report to the higher ups and as per the reports, necessary steps to be taken up will be devised.

On the other hand, mentioning that many of the transformers in the State usually don't last long due to lack of proper maintenance, lack of proper fencing etc, the source stated that when any transformer conks out, the people of the area have to suffer for a long time until the transformer is repaired.

This particular problem was also discussed during the meeting, the source mentioned, adding that it was also resolved to improve the condition of the complaint room so as to tend to any cases of leaning electric posts as well as to improve the coordination between the various parties tasked with looking after such electric equipment.

The source further conveyed that the meeting also resolved to send a proposal to the State Government to use the available resources, taking the financial problems of the State into consideration, for upgrading the current system and to improve the power infrastructure in a bid to ease the problems and the hazards faced by the people.
