Meeting under 'One District One Cuisine' convened

Kangpokpi, September 28 2026: A meeting to identify and verify prominent traditional cuisines and dishes under the One District One Cuisine (ODOC) initiative was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner today.

The meeting was chaired by Lalthazam, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pherzawl, and attended by Zosanglur Joute, Additional Deputy Commissioner & i/c SDO Parbung; S Khaikhopau Ngaihte, i/c SDO Vangai; SDCs; and District Level Officers (DLOs) from various departments.

The meeting discussed the identification of suitable traditional cuisines and allied activities that could generate sustainable and higher incomes for the people of the district.

The officials also deliberated on measures to enhance household incomes through convergence among different line departments.

Broom cultivation, locally known as Hmunphi, was identified as a viable and potentially profitable option under the ODOC initiative.

However, considering its seasonal nature, the meeting also discussed introducing alternative and followup crops after the broom harvest to ensure income generation throughout the year.

The meeting further stressed the promotion of organic farming and organic products, citing their health benefits and market potential.

Possible interventions and support from the District Administration to facilitate income-generating activities were also discussed.

The Chair directed all concerned line departments to prepare a comprehensive and well-structured action plan to take forward the proposed activities under the initiative.
