Driver still under threat after release

Imphal, September 27 2014 : Heikrujam Dhanabir (42) s/o H Kalamu Singh of Heirangoithong Awang Maibam Leikai who is a driver of a passenger vehicle that runs from Imphal to Silchar and his family members are in acute depression due to a sense of insecurity rendered by the threats posed allegedly by the members of an underground outfit.

Heikrujam Rojitkumar, elder brother of Dhanabir told mediapersons at a press meet held at Manipur Press Club that the owner of the cruiser that his brother drives as a passenger vehicle is Taorem Manglemchandra Singh s/o T Lokhon Singh of Bengandhi part II Cachar and the vehicle is registered under one Keisham Maipak Singh s/o late K Amujao of Singarbond District Cachar and his brother has got nothing to do with anything except being a driver.

Dhanabir was abducted along with the cruiser allegedly by some armed persons of a Kuki outfit on March 26 last.

He was apparently abducted as the cruiser was stuffed with betel leaves.

The betel leaves were being loaded in the cruiser insistently by the vehicle owner and he never approved it.

Dhanabir was later released after the vehicle owner, Taorem Manglemchandra Singh paid 11 lakh to the abductors with the help of a woman leader.

However, the abductors refused to return the cruiser which is on was on insurance and he could get it compensated for that matter, Manglemchandra said.

Later, after the situation got settled, complaining that Dhanabir's family did not try to get the vehicle back, some unknown persons threatened the family on phone that they would kill Dhanabir if his family do not pay them Rs 5 lakh or a vehicle in return.

On September 3 Dhanabir's family recieved a a written identification letter which read that the demand was made by a cadre of Ibotombi namely Lanthoi of an outfit, Imphal West.

Rojitkumar further appealed to all the people concerned not to create further fear and anxiety to Dhanabir and family.

The family is in dilemma and Dhanabir is under treatment due to depression.
