Price of rice skyrocketed, thanks to dirty trick of transport contractors

Dwindling stock of rice in the market places of Imphal has led to skyrocketing of the price, thanks to the dirty tricks played by sub-contractors under contractor WI of FCI godown, Dimapur engaged for lifting the rice quota of the State.
According to information received by Hueiyen Lanpao, sub-contractors under contractor WI of FCI godown, Dimapur have been selling off the rice quota of the State lifted from the godown at a premium price in Dimapur and other places and coming back loaded with other essential goods.
But upon reaching Imphal, what they do is gather the available rice from the markets in Imphal area to be unloaded at the FIC godown at Sangaiprou as if they have brought the same all the way from the FCI godown at Dimapur.
As a result, rice stock in the markets of Imphal has dwindled and the price has hit an all time high.
Even the price of Superfine rice, which is actually a PDS item and is not supposed to be sold in the market but somehow managed to find its way into the market always, has become a scare commodity today with price touching the sky.
One 50 kg bag of superfine rice which was normally sold in the black at Rs 600 has now risen upto anywhere between Rs 820 to Rs 830 .
Meanwhile, a truck driver who was repairing his truck at a workshop in Khabam Lamkhai had been reportedly abducted by some unknown persons while an i10 car coming along NH-2 hijacked by unidentified armed persons at gun point from T Khullen area in Senapati district.
The abduction of the truck driver occurred on April 10 at around 12:30 noon while the driver was busy repairing his truck in Mohindro Workshop at Khabam Lamkhai under Heingang Police Station.
The abducted driver has been identified as Ningthoujam Indrajit (42), s/o N Ningthemjao of Laphupat Tera.
The registration number of the truck he was repairing in the workshop is NL 073/2697 .
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao in this regard, H Kulamani, General Secretary, All Manipur Road Transport Driver and Motor Workers' Union, informed that N Indrajit was abducted from the workshop by three persons coming in a white Bolero.
The three persons parked their Bolero near the workshop, stepped down from the vehicle and approached directly towards Indrajit.
They told him that the owner of the truck was also with them and took him away.
Ever since that day, his whereabouts have been known.
The owner of the truck is one Benjamin from Tadubi.
But the truck is presently under the custody of one Bijoy, a Bihari presently staying in Senapati.
Both of them have denied involvement in the case and maintained that they have no knowledge about the incident.
They have even come to the office of the union and enquired about the abduction of Indrajit, Kulamani added.
Radhamani, wife of Indrajit, while talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, informed that on that fateful day, her husband went out from home without a handyman.
Just before he was abducted by the unknown persons, he called her (wife) up and said that he would be coming home soon after repairing the vehicle, along with the required vegetables for Cheiraoba.
A missing report has been filed with the Heingang Police Station but no actions have been taken up, she lamented, while appealing to the abductors to release her husband on humanitarian ground.
On the other hand, an i10 car coming from Guwahati to Imphal along NH-2 has been reportedly hijacked by some unidentified armed persons at gun point from T Khullen area.
The registration number of the i10 car which belongs to one Thiyam Bira, s/o Th Angou of Thangmeiband Purun Leikai, is MN 01 W/5997 .
