Cabinet to decide special exam for CBSE students

Imphal, May 08 2015 : The State Cabinet in a meeting is likely to decide soon for arranging a special examination for all CBSE students who were forced to miss out the Central board Class X and XII exams 2015 after their school authorities failed to issue admit cards to them.

The expected Cabinet meeting is also likely to discuss ways to abolish the current Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system introduced by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), a source in the Education Department said on Friday.

The CCE system, introduced in 2011, is not being implemented properly in most of the Higher Secondary Schools in Manipur.

Under this evaluation system 20 of the 100 marks are given to the students by the respective schools.

But this kind of system has downgraded qualities of students who obtain higher marks in final exams, the source said.

It added that CCE system is not implemented in most of the States of the country and that the system provides a room to students to score easy marks.

A report submitted to the Government by the fact finding committee headed by the Education (S) Director has proposed the State Government to decide a one-time arrangement to prevent the Class X and XII students from missing the academic calendar, the source said.

If once approved by the Cabinet, the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOHSEM) and COHSEM are expected to conduct the special exam in June next.
