500 runners join Forest Dept's half marathon for wildlife conservation

Imphal, October 03 2026:
As part of the 72nd Wildlife Week Celebration 2026, the Forest Department, Government of Manipur organised a half marathon on the theme "Together for Wildlife" today.
Around 500 runners took part in the marathon which was flagged off from Lamboikhongnangkhong ground, Imphal West by Chief Conservator of Forest T1/Wildlife L Joykumar and Chief Conservator of Forest T2 .
The runners covered Iroishemba, Lamshang and Pheiyeng before finishing at the starting point.
Speaking on the occasion, L Joykumar said it is heartening to see youths come forward to take part in the marathon.
Wildlife Week is observed every year to spread awareness that human life cannot sustain without wildlife, he said.
Today's run is not just about covering a distance.
Every step carries the message to protect wildlife, he said.
He appealed to all to work collectively for conservation and protection of wildlife.
In the Men's Open category, Thotngacheirin Luiyi secured first position, Kusum Mukta second and TR Dithuanlung third.
In Women's Open category, Makakmayum Minarashi bagged first position, Ayekpam Sai Chanu second and Pipa Khurim Dangshawa third.
