Chandel, September 28 2026: World Rivers Day was celebrated at Angam Memorial School, Liwachangning in Chandel district today organised by Divisional F orest Officer (DFO) Chandel.

The celebration held on the theme "No Forests, No River, No Water, No Life" was attended by students, Teachers and staff of the school and staff of the Forest Department.

DFO Chandel, Dr N Munal Meitei; Principal of Angam Memorial School, Dr Konthang Monshang and Range Forest Officer Chandel, N Deepa attended as the presidium members of the event.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dr N Munal Meitei highlighted the significance of celebrating World Rivers Day.

Stressing on the importance of taking up river protection initiatives, he stated that 70 percent of the rivers across the world are affected by plastic pollution, construction activities on river banks, construction of dams and other developmental activities.

He expressed that rivers are one of the major lifelines of humans and other living beings and deliberated on the significance of protection of rivers from further degradation.

The DFO urged all to make collective efforts and pledge to protect the rivers by taking up various initiatives such as planting trees, anti pollution drive, environmental awareness campaigns and other relevant activities for the well-being of all and to maintain the ecological balance.
