CCpur, Chandel, Sadar Hills to seal fate of remaining candidates today
33 elected sans contest, strict security vigil in place

Imphal, May 25 2010: Despite the strong opposition and overt threats issued by some Naga civil societies against holding the ADC election in its present form, necessary preparations have been made to ensure the safe conduct of the first phase poll tomorrow, which will cover 39 District Council Constituencies (DCCs) spread across Sadar Hills, Chandel and Churachandpur.

All the ADCs of the hill districts have 24 DCCs each, but with 32 already elected uncontested, polling in the first phase will decide the fate of the candidates vying for the remaining seats.

Of the 33 already announced as elected without contest, 32 belong to the Congress while one is from the RJD.

Sadar Hills will elect 12 candidates, Chandel 12 and Churachandpur 9 tomorrow.

In Sadar Hills there are 41 candidates in the fray while in Churachandpur the number of candidate is 53.Chandel has 40 candidates in the fray.

Election to the district councils of Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong will be held in the second phase on June 2 .

Polling will begin from 7 am and go on till 3.30 pm.

The number of polling stations at Churachandpur is 170 followed by Sadar Hills with 82 and Chandel with 60 .

Out of all the polling stations in the three DCCs, 38 have been declared as hyper sensitive and 44 as sensitive in Sadar Hills, 95 hyper sensitive and 75 sensitive in Churachandpur while in Chandel DCCs, seven have been declared as hyper sensitive and 24 as sensitive.

The total number of voters in Churachandpur stands at 1,15,703 followed by Sadar Hills with 58,484 and Chandel with 43,706 .

Polling personnel will be put on duty in each polling station and reports have come in that all the polling personnel have reached their destinations.

Some polling personnel detailed in Churachandpur had to cross some stretches on boats to reach their destination at Vangai Range.

With the State Government taking no chances to ensure a free, fair and peaceful polling in the face of strong opposition from some quarters, two sections of Central Paramilitary forces have been put on duty in each of the DDC.

In Chandel, only personnel from the Central Para-military force will be detailed for duty and all the personnel will be armed.

In the case of Sadar Hills and Churachandpur security will be provided by the Central Para-military force as well as State forces.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, DGP Y Joykumar said that the services of both the Central forces and State forces would be requisitioned for election duty.
