Haj committee chairman misuses his office: AMMSO

Imphal, August 09, 2014: The All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) on Saturday alleged that the chairman of the Manipur State Haj Committee has made the post of the chairmanship his earning avenue.

In this connection, a memorandum will be submitted to the Government of Manipur for necessary intervention.

Briefing the media person on the issue held today at Manipur Press Club, the President of AMMSO mentioned that Manipur State Haj Committee chairman has engaged in activity which is not related with his assignment as chairman of the Haj committee and earned money with the post illegally.

He further charged that the chairman does not do any initiation in connection with the Haj to be voyaged in the last week of this month for which the State Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 20 lakh.

In addition to it, the chairman, without consulting with the committee members, has selected the Khadim Huja who acts as manager of the Haj travelers of his own choice and there was such occurrence in the past also.

The committee provides no service in connection with Haj visit including various religious related training and activity to be observed at Mecca.

In this matter, an enquiry, the AMMSO President informed, was made which revealed that the chairman has exercised a certain amount of corruption in the name visiting to the holy place of Mecca.

In such situation, religious Muslim NGOs have offered a proposal for the Haj related necessary training programme in the interest of the Haj travelers, but the proposal ends with no response.

He further added that such unbecoming attitude of the Haj committee Chairman will be reported to the Central government including Prime Minister as well as the Chief Minister and Deputy CM of the State so as to render corrective measures in no time in the interest of the minority Muslim especially for ready to go Haj travelers.

The President further alleged that religious post is now working with narrow politics for personal Aggrandizement and decided to have a sitting with the ready to go Haj travelers so as to find ways and means.
